Amaya Booker, "Geek" Goth

Those people who adore the dark aesthetics, but at the same time adore video games, comic books, conventions, anime, cosplay, and anything sci-fi or book-related, be it information or fictional literature. Many, if not practically all Goths enjoy either cosplaying, roleplaying, reading, and/or fantasy and sci-fi (knocking on the doors of Cyber, Romantic, Fairy, Medival, and Victorian Goth, among others), but the Geek Goth takes it to another level. For these Goths, the dress isn't really the biggest priority, although they may like dying their hair unnatural colors and wearing dark makeup. A simple band tee and black pants would suffice for them, along with piercings and possibly glasses, if they have them. The main focus of this type is the collective geekiness of video games and roleplaying, and being a part of fandoms like Lord of the Rings (I recently saw this entire trilogy along with The Hobbit, and I absolutely adore it). Some artists like Voltaire may appeal to them.

As stated above, the most common kind of dress would be a band tee or a shirt with a game character or witty saying on it, along with a nice pair of pants and whatever other necklaces and chokers they would decide to wear. Glasses aren't a requirement, but they certainly make the "geek" look a little more prominent. Unnatural hair colors and dark makeup never go wrong, either. And in no way is being a "geek" an insult! All Goths have some kind of geek spirit in them.

Think Geek Goth could be your thing?

  • You love video games (RPGs or MMORPGs)
  • You love anime, manga or other comic books
  • You like techno-ish music or artists like Voltaire
  • You like wearing a simple shirt and pants as opposed to really elaborate clothes
  • You like to roleplay/cosplay
  • You like fantasy or sci-fi things like Doctor Who or Lord of the Rings

These are just some of the things that could make Geek Goth your thing. It's up to you to find out what you like and dislike, Remember, there are no rules as to what mold you have to fit in the Goth subculture. You could combine aspects from all different types and make it completely your own, or gravitate to one particular style that you really like. It's all up to you!
